Honoured for role in success of Pope’s visit, outstanding service to nation
It is over two months (April 15-18) since Pope Leo XIV left Cameroon after a successful Apostolic visit. Echoes of the visit have continued to vibrate across every lip, social gatherings and other high circles. Besides the Head of State, President Paul Biya who gave all the necessary assistance needed for such a high-ranking personality, one person also stands out as the architect behind the success story. That is, Okie Johnson Ndoh, who was the National General Coordinator. Some school of thoughts hold that everything could have been provided, yet failures would still have been registered. But Okie, we are told was very meticulous in the way things were handled.
That is why the august guest, Pope Leo XIV barely one week after departing from Cameroon, quickly sent a thank you message to the General Coordinator of his visit to Cameroon.
In an emotional Thank You message, addressed to Okie Johnson, and dated April 27, 2026, Pope Leo XIV wrote: “Following my trip to Cameroon, I would like to thank you for your generous participation, as well as everyone else who helped make this visit a success”.
“I would like to pay special tribute to the various leaders who have coordinated the work in a spirit of charity. I assure you of my prayers and impart my Apostolic Blessing to you and to all those who have lent their support,” Pope Leo XIV Stated.
The accolades had since not stopped with the Supreme Pontiff as the media followed suits.
Grand Architect of Successful Apostolic Visit to Cameroon
The relay continued with Okie Johnson who also doubles as the General President of the Catholic Men Association (CMA) Cameroon also having another feather on his cap, for his successful coordination of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon.
This time around he was distinguished with an award of “Grand Architect of Successful Apostolic Visit to Cameroon Award”.
It was on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Yaounde. That was during the Decennial Trendsetters Award Night of one of Cameroon’s most authoritative English Language newspapers, The Voice.
According to The Voice award jury, led by the National President of the Cameroon English-Language Newspaper Publishers’ Association, CENPA, who also doubles as Publisher of Cameroon’s leading English Language Daily Newspaper, The Guardian Post; Kristian Ngah Christian, said Okie Johnson Ndoh was found worthy of praise “for his monumental role as the General Coordinator of Pope Leo XIV’s historic visit to Cameroon”.
The award jury added that: “Entrusted with the weight of a nation’s reputation, he served as a master strategist, who breached the gap between the Holy See and the State. This honour recognises his ability to design and execute a complex national event, that required absolute synergy across logistics, security and diplomatic protocol. He is awarded for his exceptional ability to mobilise the soul of the nation. Through his leadership within the Catholic Men Association, he didn’t just organise a visit, he inspired a movement. This distinction celebrates his success in rallying tens of thousands across divided Regions – from Yaounde to Bamenda to Douala; creating a unified front of peace and welcome for the Holy Father”.
After receiving The Voice award, Okie Johnson promised to continue his unrelenting works towards the growth of the Church and the spread of the gospel.
Pragmatic DG of The Year
Beyond the successful coordination of the Pope’s visit to Cameroon, Okie Johnson has also been seen by the media as a very pragmatic Director General. He was distinguished in Ebolowa, South Region during the 23rd Edition of The Guardian Post Achievement Award. The award is meant to celebrate excellence, resilience, and the spirit of service, of which Okie Johnson falls in one of the categories.
The jury made up of renowned journalists, civil society leaders and politicians distinguished the CSPH Director General for his acclaimed foresightedness in redynamising the government structure, through the construction of more filling stations and cooking gas plants; thereby taking petroleum products closer to the population and promoting sustainable development.
That is why a thunderous applaud followed when Okie Johnson’s name was read out by the president of the jury, Theodore Mih Ndze.
Speaking earlier before handing over the awards to winners, the President of the award jury, Theodore Mih Ndze, told the audience that the Ebolowa event was not merely organised to dish out awards, but to celebrate excellence, resilience, and the spirit of service.
Mih Ndze who is Publisher of The Voice Newspaper, noted that The Guardian Post Achievement Award was more than a ceremony—stating that it is a recognition of individuals whose contributions have left indelible marks in the society.
He said laureates of the award initiative are shining examples of dedication and impact.
“They have been awarded not for fleeting accomplishments, but for sustained excellence in their fields. Whether in public service, business, education, or community development, each laureate embodies the values of integrity, innovation, and commitment to the greater good”, Mih Ndze told the Ebolowa gathering.
He said winners of the award remind “us that true achievement is measured not by personal gain, but by the lives touched and the communities uplifted and impacted”.
Speaking further, Mih Ndze said the awards are a testament to courage in the face of challenges, creativity in solving problems, and consistency in delivering results.
“The Guardian Post has always believed that recognition is not just about applause—it is about inspiring others to follow in the footsteps of those who lead with vision and purpose. Tonight’s honorees have been singled out because they represent the very best of what our nation wants and our people can achieve” he continued.
The ripples of applause for Okie Johnson from within the church and other well-meaning citizens, have been largely about the selflessness in which he goes about any assignment given to him by the Head of State, H.E. President Paul Biya either as General Coordinator or as Director General of the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund also known in French as CSPH.
It should be noted that the accolades from Pope Leo XIV is not the first time Okie Johnson is getting a distinction from the Vatican or the media in Cameroon.
Some years back, his works in the Church earned him a recognition from Pope Francis; rare Benemerenti, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (highest honour for exceptional long, dedicated service to the Church).
